2027: Lagosians Must End APC’s ‘Smelling Lagos’ Era, Says ADC’s Gbadamosi

African Democratic Congress (ADC) deputy governorship candidate in Lagos State, Babatunde Gbadamosi, has urged voters to end what he described as the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s era of a “smelling Lagos” in the 2027 governorship election.

Gbadamosi made the statement during an interview on Vanguard’s Politics Hub, where he explained why he chose the ADC as his platform after previous unsuccessful attempts to contest the governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The politician said the outcome of the 2027 election would ultimately be determined by Lagos voters, stressing that no candidate or party could take victory for granted.

“There are no certainties. There are no givens. It’s down to the people to choose what they want,” Gbadamosi said.

He referenced the recent Osun State governorship election, arguing that voters had demonstrated their willingness to reject political options they did not support. He said Lagosians would similarly have to decide whether they wanted a change in the state.

Gbadamosi urged residents to assess issues such as access to water, waste management and the general condition of Lagos when deciding who to support in 2027.

“We have 25 million Lagosians. They have to make up their minds whether they want to end the era of no water in the taps; whether they want to end the era of refuse everywhere, Lagos smelling, stinking from the minute you step out of the plane,” he said.

He also criticised what he described as an emphasis on political appearances and rhetoric without enough attention to solving the problems confronting residents.

“They have to decide if they want to keep seeing agbada after agbada on their screens, people speaking all manner of English without actually solving the problems,” he said.

Gbadamosi said he did not believe victory could be achieved through a predetermined political formula, maintaining that the electorate would ultimately decide the direction of Lagos in 2027.

The ADC candidate is running alongside the party’s governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, as the party seeks to challenge the APC’s longstanding dominance of Lagos politics.
