Rapper Dremo has opened up on his decision to leave Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), revealing that the record label’s management concentrated largely on CEO Davido, leaving other artists, including himself, with limited opportunities to grow.
In a recent interview with Echo Room, Dremo said the label’s structure and priorities hindered collaboration and artistic development. “I didn’t collaborate with Idowest, who was my label mate and fellow rapper, because at that time we were all striving to stay afloat in the music industry. Even DMW as a whole didn’t collaborate much; we never had a record label album. The management focused only on Davido,” he said.
Dremo further disclosed that the label failed to meet his financial and career expectations. “The label didn’t give me money. It was like a platform. I didn’t get what I wanted from the label,” he added.
The rapper said his experience with DMW has shaped his choice to pursue a fully independent path. “I learned that I can chart my own course and remain true to my artistry without being limited by the structure of a label that prioritises one individual over others,” he said.
Dremo’s comments shed light on the challenges some artists face within high-profile record labels, highlighting the delicate balance between star-focused promotion and supporting emerging talent.
