Afrobeats star Omah Lay has opened up about a painful personal experience that unfolded during the Grammy Awards in 2025, revealing that he went through a breakup while attending the ceremony in Los Angeles.
The singer shared the revelation during the listening party for his upcoming album, Clarity Of Mind, where he reflected on how the sudden end of a short-lived relationship affected his emotions and his experience at the prestigious event.
According to Omah Lay, the relationship had only lasted about two months but had appeared promising. He admitted that he had strong feelings for the woman and even imagined building a future with her. However, things began to fall apart just as he was attending the Grammys.
“Every time I fall in love, I lose myself. While I was at the Grammy and Justin Bieber was performing, I was having a breakup and an embarrassing moment,” the singer said.
The Afrobeats star explained that tensions in the relationship had already started before the ceremony, which left him emotionally distracted during one of music’s biggest nights. He said the situation made it difficult for him to fully enjoy the event.
“While I was at the Grammys, I was not present because even before the show I had already started having issues in my relationship. And this was only a two-month-old relationship. But I thought it was the right relationship and I was going to have a baby,” he added.
Omah Lay noted that the heartbreak reinforced a personal pattern he has noticed about himself — becoming deeply invested whenever he falls in love. He said the experience ultimately shaped parts of his new music and emotional reflections ahead of the release of Clarity Of Mind.
