Stakeholders Emphasize Unity, Strategy, and Faith Ahead of 2028 Elections
Leaders and political stakeholders from Imo State’s Okigwe senatorial zone have resolved to intensify strategic engagements to secure the governorship in 2028.
The decision was taken at a meeting held on Monday at the country home of businessman Tony Chukwu in Umueze I, Ehime Mbano LGA. Attendees pledged to mobilize resources and maintain focus to produce the successor to Governor Hope Uzodimma.
Unity and Faith Highlighted as Key to Success
Addressing the gathering, Mr Chukwu stressed that achieving the governorship requires both strategy and faith. He urged stakeholders to dedicate the project to God during the Lenten period, describing it as a time for sacrifice and reflection.
“Lent represents sacrifice and reflection. We must urge the Okigwe zone to commit the 2028 Governorship project into God’s hands,” Chukwu said.
Former Governor Ikedi Ohakim commended Chukwu’s commitment to the Okigwe cause and called for “absolute unity among all sons and daughters of Okigwe zone” to ensure success. He further noted that prayers and solidarity are essential to gain support from the Owerri and Orlu zones.
Endorsements from Key State Figures
Secretary to the Government of Imo State, Cosmas Iwu, lauded Governor Uzodimma for his leadership, infrastructure projects, and goodwill toward the Okigwe zone. He expressed hope that Uzodimma would support the zone’s 2028 aspiration “as a matter of equity and fairness in the state.”
The motion to adopt the assembly’s resolutions was moved by Miriam Onuoha, the lawmaker representing Okigwe North Federal Constituency. Onuoha emphasized that the aspiration should be pursued through strategic engagement, unity, and solidarity.
