GWOZA, Nigeria — Suspected members of Boko Haram have ambushed a local vigilante patrol along the Warave–Gwoza Road in Gwoza Local Government Area, killing one operative.

Security sources said the attack occurred around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday when insurgents opened fire on members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters conducting routine patrol in the area.

A CJTF member, identified as Bello Adamu, 50, sustained fatal gunshot wounds during the ambush. He was evacuated to the General Hospital in Gwoza, where he was confirmed dead on arrival. His remains were later released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Security Reinforcement Deployed

Following the attack, troops of Operation HADIN KAI were deployed to secure the area. Surveillance and patrol operations have since been intensified along the Warave–Gwoza corridor to prevent further attacks and track down those responsible.

Military authorities had not issued an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
