Leaders and stakeholders of Okigwe Senatorial District in Imo State have formally declared their determination to produce the state’s governor in 2028, marking a significant political mobilisation ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The high-level gathering took place at Umueze 1, the country home of apex leader and convener, Chief Tony Chukwu. The meeting combined spiritual reflection with strategic political discussions focused on positioning Okigwe zone for the governorship when the tenure of Governor Hope Uzodimma ends.

Call for Prayer and Unity

In his address, Chief Chukwu described the timing of the meeting as symbolic, noting that the Lenten season represents sacrifice, reflection and dependence on God.

The proposal received unanimous endorsement from leaders present, who affirmed that Okigwe deserves the governorship in 2028 and stressed that divine intervention would be central to achieving the aspiration.

Ohakim Backs Initiative

Former Imo State Governor, Ikedi Ohakim, commended Chief Chukwu for his longstanding advocacy for Okigwe’s political interest.

Ohakim called for unity among the people of the zone and emphasised the importance of sincere prayers, expressing confidence that faith and collective resolve would yield results.
