ABUJA – The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over the controversial passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill by the National Assembly.

Reacting on Wednesday, the ADC spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, accused the APC of undermining Nigeria’s democracy, describing the development as troubling.

In a post shared via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Abdullahi expressed concern over what he termed “impunity” by the ruling party, warning that such actions should not be allowed to threaten democratic governance in the country.

“With this level of impunity, we pray that the APC does not become the death of our democracy,” he wrote.

He further alleged that despite having the majority of state governors under its control, the APC was still apprehensive about conducting a free and fair election.

“Almost all the governors are in their party, yet they are afraid of a free and fair election. But Nigerians will never surrender to tyranny. We have seen this before,” Abdullahi added.

The controversy surrounding the Electoral Act Amendment Bill has sparked debate across political circles, with opposition parties raising concerns about its potential impact on the credibility of future elections.
