Popular Nigerian businessman and socialite Obinna Iyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, has responded to growing criticism over his recent political alignment, declaring that his foremost priority is now winning souls for Jesus Christ.
The billionaire entrepreneur made the statement in a Facebook post on Sunday, days after social media backlash followed his association with an All Progressives Congress (APC) support group.
Obi Cubana was recently appointed South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, a political group campaigning for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu. The announcement sparked criticism online, with some users accusing the businessman of aligning with an administration they claim has worsened economic hardship in the country.
Amid the criticism, Obi Cubana appeared to shift the focus from politics to faith. In his post, he wrote that “the MOST important assignment now is winning souls for Christ,” while expressing gratitude for what he described as a spiritually fulfilling week.
“Our week is way too blessed and full of fruitfulness, amen! Awesome time in God’s presence as always,” the post added.
The declaration comes shortly after the founder of Streams of Joy International, Pastor Jerry Eze, publicly led Obi Cubana to Christ, a development that has drawn attention across religious and social circles.
While the businessman did not directly address the political controversy, his statement has been widely interpreted as a response to critics questioning his involvement in partisan politics.
