Fresh controversy has emerged around Nigerian billionaire and senator Ned Nwoko following reports that Ann, a close friend of his estranged wife, actress Regina Daniels, has been arrested by police in Lagos.

Ann was taken into custody on Monday by officers from the Ajah Police Division, according to a video shared online by Sammy, Regina Daniels’ elder brother.

In the footage and accompanying Instagram post, Sammy claimed the police arrived with a court order authorising Ann’s detention over allegations of conspiracy, assault and theft.

Questioning the basis of the arrest, Sammy insisted that Ann had never been to Senator Nwoko’s residence, casting doubt on the accusations and criticising Nigeria’s justice system.

“There was no time Ann was ever at Ned’s house. So how is there a court order to detain her for conspiracy, theft and all?” he wrote. “Nigeria has failed us.”

The arrest adds a new layer to an already tense situation surrounding the estranged couple. Associates of Regina Daniels have alleged that members of her inner circle have faced police action in recent months, following public accusations she made against the senator.

Two months ago, the actress accused Ned Nwoko of abuse and domestic violence, claims that sparked widespread reactions online and intensified scrutiny of their marriage.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Senator Ned Nwoko nor the Nigeria Police has issued an official statement addressing the arrest or the allegations against Ann.
