Nigerian music star Davido and popular TikToker Peller are counting heavy losses after betting on the Super Eagles to defeat Morocco in Wednesday’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-final.

Davido lost a $50,000 wager after Nigeria were held to a goalless draw before falling 4–2 on penalties to the Atlas Lions. Hours before kick-off, the Afrobeats singer had shared his betting slip online, confidently backing the Super Eagles to secure victory in regulation time.

The match, played under intense pressure, ended scoreless after extra time, before Morocco held their nerve from the spot to book a place in the final — crushing Nigeria’s title hopes and Davido’s high-stakes gamble.

The disappointment was echoed online by Nigerian TikTok personality Peller, who revealed he lost $3,000 betting on Nigeria to win within 90 minutes. Reacting during a livestream, Peller lamented his timing, noting that the Super Eagles had impressed him in earlier games before he decided to stake money on the encounter.

“Thank you Super Eagles for playing very well,” he said sarcastically. “I have lost my $3,000 bet. You guys were playing well the previous games before I decided to place a bet and watch your match.”

He added jokingly that perhaps Nigeria would return to winning ways if he stopped watching their games altogether.

Nigeria’s exit from the tournament sparked widespread reactions across social media, with fans expressing pride in the team’s effort but frustration over another narrow AFCON setback.
