Singer and fashion entrepreneur Juma Jux has become one of the latest victims of Tanzania’s post-election unrest after protesters looted his luxury fashion store on Thursday.

The chaos followed a disputed general election marred by allegations of irregularities, disqualification of opposition candidates, and widespread arrests of political figures, sparking nationwide protests demanding the annulment of the results.

As the tension escalated, social media was flooded with unverified claims that Jux’s high-end fashion store—allegedly worth $780 million—had been set on fire by angry demonstrators. The claim quickly gained traction, adding confusion to an already volatile situation.

However, Juma Jux’s wife, Nigerian influencer Priscilla Ojo, took to Snapchat to debunk the viral report. She clarified that while the store had indeed been looted, it was not destroyed by fire.

She wrote simply, “Looted not burnt,” putting to rest speculation about the extent of the damage. Her statement reassured fans of the Tanzanian star, who is widely known for his successful crossover into the fashion industry.

Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident or confirm the total value of goods lost during the looting. Security forces have been deployed across several cities to restore order amid continuing protests over the disputed election.

The incident highlights how political unrest in the East African nation is spilling into the private and entertainment sectors, threatening livelihoods and investments far beyond the political arena.
