Renowned Nigerian evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA), Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, has passed away at the age of 80.
His death was confirmed on Monday via a post on his official Instagram page, @Uma_Ukpai, announcing that the revered preacher died on October 6, 2025.
The statement, titled “With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate the triumphant homegoing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai,” expressed deep appreciation to God for the life and legacy of the cleric, describing him as “a faithful soldier of the cross.”
“With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate the triumphant homegoing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed on to glory on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80. A faithful soldier of the cross has been called to rest,” the statement read.
It added that Rev. Ukpai dedicated over six decades to fiery evangelism, dynamic teaching of the Word, and prophetic demonstrations of God’s power — impacting millions of lives across Nigeria and beyond.
“He was a spiritual general known for evangelism, a founding father of faith, a loving husband, devoted father, and mentor to many. His life was a testament to God’s power and love,” the post continued.
While the family expressed sorrow over his passing, they said they take solace in the fact that he “has finished his race and is now resting in eternal praise.”
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, whose ministry was non-denominational, led the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association, headquartered in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. Over the years, he became one of Nigeria’s most respected evangelists, hosting crusades that drew crowds from across Africa and inspiring generations of Christian leaders.
He is survived by his wife, children, and numerous spiritual protégés.
