The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep disappointment over the defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, described Mbah’s decision as regrettable and a betrayal of the party’s trust.

“The PDP is utterly disappointed by those actions, having regard to what we know behind the scene,” Ologunagba said. “But having said that, people have a right to decide what they want to do; the consequences can follow.”

He urged serving PDP governors to remember their roles as party leaders entrusted with the mandate of the people who elected them under the PDP platform.

Ologunagba added that the party was aware of internal saboteurs undermining its unity but assured that the forthcoming national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, slated for November, would help rebuild the PDP from the ground up.

He maintained that the convention would mark a new phase of rejuvenation for the opposition party ahead of future elections.
