The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of its Deputy Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ugochimereze Chinedu Asuzu.

Asuzu, a prominent political voice and convener of Ikoro Ndigbo, reportedly slumped and died in the early hours of Wednesday.

In a statement, the ADC State Publicity Secretary, Chief MacDonald Amadi, described his passing as “a devastating loss,” hailing him as a man of “uncommon intellect, conviction, and service.”

A native of Umuma Isiaku in Ideato South Local Government Area, Asuzu was more than a party spokesman. He was a theologian, entrepreneur, cultural advocate, and founder of Igbo Intelligentsia Renaissance, a platform dedicated to cultural renewal and intellectual engagement.

He also led I Stand With ADC, a citizen coalition group that mobilised democratic participation. A former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he built a reputation as a prolific writer, public affairs analyst, and visiting lecturer.

With academic degrees in Theology and Political Science, Asuzu was pursuing a doctorate at the time of his death. His colleagues remember him as a grassroots mobiliser who bridged scholarship and activism.

The party’s statement further paid tribute to him as “a loving husband, devoted father, and mentor” whose influence stretched beyond politics into religious and cultural circles.

“The passing of Chief Asuzu is an irreplaceable loss to his family, the ADC family, and the larger Nigerian society,” the statement read.
