Real Madrid have lodged an official appeal to overturn the red card shown to young defender Dean Huijsen, with club officials confident the suspension will be rescinded.
The 19-year-old was dismissed during Madrid’s recent fixture, but the Spanish giants believe the decision was excessive and have submitted evidence to the competition’s disciplinary body.
According to Marca, the appeal centres on two key arguments. First, the club maintains that Eder Militao was in position to cover, meaning there was no last-man situation. Second, they argue the foul occurred at a considerable distance from goal, with the direction of play not constituting a clear scoring opportunity.
Within the club, there is optimism that the appeal will succeed, particularly as video analysis supports their claim that Huijsen’s action did not deny an obvious goalscoring chance.
If the expulsion is overturned, the Dutch-born defender could avoid suspension, providing a boost to Carlo Ancelotti’s squad depth amid a congested fixture list.
The disciplinary panel is expected to review Madrid’s case this week before issuing a ruling.
