Prada Uzodimma, daughter of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, has unveiled a nationwide initiative to honour Nigerian teachers, calling them “the silent heroes who shape generations.”
The campaign, branded #DearTeacher, was formally endorsed by the Imo State Commissioner of Education and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT). It aims to spotlight the sacrifices, resilience and lifelong impact of educators often overlooked in society.
Dr. Uzodimma, a lawyer and philanthropist, is also the founder of the Prada Uzodimma Imo Indigenes Law School Scholarship Grant (PUIISG), which supports indigent students pursuing legal education. She explained that while her scholarship empowers young learners, the new campaign focuses on the teachers who make such academic dreams possible.
“The #DearTeacher Campaign is not just about recognition,” she said. “It is about creating a culture where teachers are celebrated, respected and supported to thrive.”
According to the organisers, the initiative will involve a transparent nomination and selection process, nationwide recognition events, and the provision of tangible resources to support outstanding educators.
Its objectives include restoring dignity to the teaching profession, encouraging students to appreciate their mentors, and inspiring teachers to sustain excellence.
With the first recognition cycle already underway, the campaign is expected to elevate public awareness, strengthen community bonds, and reinforce teachers’ central role in Nigeria’s educational and social development.
