Fresh from celebrating her graduation, a young woman’s dreams were shattered when a tragic road accident involving a heavy-duty truck left her fighting for her life — and ultimately cost her a leg. Now, award-winning actress Kate Henshaw is using her voice to demand accountability and justice for the victim, who is the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna.
The devastating incident occurred just six days after the victim’s convocation ceremony. Eyewitnesses say a speeding truck lost control and rammed into the vehicle she was travelling in, crushing her lower limbs. Despite being rushed to the hospital, doctors were unable to save one of her legs due to the severity of the injury.
Kate Henshaw, visibly shaken and angered by the development, took to social media to call for a full investigation. She condemned the recklessness of truck drivers and the seeming lack of road safety enforcement in the country, insisting that the driver and those responsible must face the full weight of the law.
“This young woman worked hard to earn her degree, only for her life to be changed forever in seconds. We cannot keep looking away while bad roads, reckless driving, and weak enforcement destroy lives. She deserves justice, and we must all demand it,” Henshaw wrote.
Phyna, who has been by her sister’s side since the accident, expressed deep grief but thanked well-wishers for their prayers and support. She described her sister as “a fighter” and vowed to ensure the matter does not get swept under the rug.
Road traffic data from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) shows that truck-related accidents remain a major cause of fatalities in Nigeria, with hundreds of cases recorded annually. Advocacy groups are now rallying behind Henshaw’s call, urging for stricter licensing laws for truck drivers and better regulation of heavy vehicles on public roads.
As public outrage grows, pressure mounts on transport authorities to act decisively. For now, the victim’s family is focused on her recovery, but they have made it clear that the fight for justice will not end until those responsible are held accountable.
