A notorious criminal hideout at Ama Hausa in Owerri, Imo State, was reduced to rubble on Tuesday, July 2, 2025, following a government-sanctioned demolition led by Hon. Nze Chinasa Nwaneri, Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Monitoring and Compliance. The operation, which has since gone viral on social media, marked a major crackdown on drug peddling, gun running, and violent crime syndicates that had been terrorizing the area.

Security operatives stormed the hideout shortly after surveillance teams confirmed it as a central hub for criminal dealings, following months of intelligence gathering. Several suspects were arrested during the sting, with illegal arms and hard drugs reportedly recovered from the scene. Authorities have handed over the apprehended individuals to security agencies for further interrogation and prosecution.

Hon. Nwaneri, speaking at the demolition site, emphasized that the Uzodimma-led government remains unshaken in its resolve to reclaim public spaces and flush out criminals. “This state will never be a sanctuary for criminals again. Whether it’s drug dealers or gun runners, we will hunt them down and dismantle their operations,” he declared.

The operation drew praise from the leadership of the Hausa community in Imo, who described the move as long overdue. Community elders publicly thanked Governor Uzodimma for his decisive action, stating that the presence of criminal elements in their midst had posed a serious threat to the peace and reputation of law-abiding members.

Residents who spoke with reporters described the atmosphere as one of relief and renewed hope. Many credited the state government for addressing long-standing security concerns that had hindered business, movement, and overall safety in the area.

The government, while commending the patriotic citizen who tipped off security operatives, warned landlords, market leaders, and community heads against harboring criminal elements. Officials stressed that anyone caught aiding or shielding criminals would face severe consequences.

This demolition follows a string of recent security operations aimed at restoring safety across Imo State. Governor Uzodimma’s administration has reiterated that under its watch, criminals will find no hiding place, as the state pushes forward on its security and development agenda.
