Tragedy unfolded in the Mpape district of Abuja on June 23, 2025, as Mr. Louis Nwachukwu, a senior staff member at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), was found dead in a hotel room hours after checking in with a woman believed to be his mistress. The incident has sent shockwaves across the Federal Capital Territory.
Mr. Nwachukwu reportedly checked into the unnamed hotel around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, accompanied by Miss Helen Raymond. According to hotel staff, the pair had no prior bookings and paid in cash before proceeding to their room. Everything appeared normal—until the following morning.
Miss Raymond, during her police statement, claimed the deceased collapsed in bed shortly after they allegedly had sexual intercourse and never regained consciousness. She said she attempted to revive him but panicked and alerted the hotel management when he remained unresponsive.
Hotel management immediately contacted the Mpape Police Division, who arrived at the scene and moved the body to a nearby mortuary. FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident but declined to give further details, stating, “We are investigating the circumstances of the death.”
Sources close to the investigation hinted that toxicology tests would be conducted as part of the post-mortem examination to determine the actual cause of death. As of press time, there was no evidence of foul play or drug usage, but the police have not ruled anything out.
The incident has raised safety and ethical concerns, especially regarding the rising cases of sudden deaths linked to extramarital affairs and unverified sexual enhancement drugs. Social media users are already speculating, with some calling for autopsy transparency and public education on health risks.
Family members of the deceased, who resides in the Gwarinpa area, have been informed, and arrangements are being made for a full investigation in collaboration with the TCN management and the Nigeria Police Force.
