Remo Stars Football Club etched their name in Nigerian football history by clinching their first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title. The Ikenne-based team secured the championship with a decisive 4-1 victory over Ikorodu City on May 11, 2025, amassing an unassailable 71 points from 36 matches, ten points clear of their closest rivals .
To commemorate this monumental achievement, the Sky Blue Stars organized a grand trophy parade on May 16, 2025. The celebration commenced at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church in Ikenne and traversed key locations including Aiyepe Junction, Gateway International Stadium in Sagamu, and the Akarigbo Palace, culminating at the Remo Stars Stadium .
The parade witnessed an outpouring of support from fans, with thousands lining the streets, waving flags, and donning the club’s colors. The atmosphere was electric as players and coaching staff celebrated atop an open-top bus, sharing their triumph with the community that has supported them throughout their journey .
This victory is particularly significant as Remo Stars become the first club from Ogun State to win the NPFL title and the first from Nigeria’s South West to achieve this feat since 2000. Their success also marks a milestone as they are the first privately-owned club to clinch the NPFL championship since Udoji United in 1996 .
Under the guidance of head coach Daniel Ogunmodede, Remo Stars have demonstrated remarkable progress. Ogunmodede, who returned to the club in 2022 after a stint in Portugal, has been instrumental in the team’s ascent, leading them to back-to-back second-place finishes before this historic win .
The club’s journey from its founding in 2010 by businessman Kunle Soname to national champions in 2025 is a testament to strategic planning, investment in infrastructure, and a commitment to excellence.
