Nollywood veteran and celebrated comedian Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, popularly known as Okey Bakassi, has been officially crowned as the traditional ruler of the Umuihuocha Autonomous Community in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State. The coronation ceremony, held on May 6, 2025, marked a significant transition from his illustrious entertainment career to a revered position of traditional leadership.

Now bearing the title His Royal Highness Eze Okechukwu Onyegbule, the OKWE II of Umuihuocha Obohia, Bakassi becomes the second monarch to hold the esteemed “Okwe” title, signifying a continuation of his community’s royal lineage. The event was a grand celebration of Igbo culture, featuring traditional music, dance, and attire, with community members expressing joy and support for their new king.

In a heartfelt address during the ceremony, Eze Onyegbule emphasized his commitment to peace, unity, and cultural preservation. “Umuihuocha are peaceful people; I won’t bring anything that will cause problems or calamity in this place,” he assured his subjects. The community, in turn, pledged their loyalty and support, affirming their confidence in his leadership.
