The life of Chief Mrs. Shimite Bello, Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Trade and Export, has been tragically cut short in what is being reported as a case of fatal domestic violence. Her husband, Pastor David Favour, is currently in police custody after allegedly attacking her during a confrontation that turned deadly at their home.

The shocking incident occurred on Sunday, April 21, 2025, just days after Mrs. Bello had attended a state function championing women’s economic empowerment. Described by colleagues as a “tireless economic reformer” and “a light to many homes,” her sudden demise has sparked a storm of grief and anger across social media and among rights advocates.
According to sources close to the family, the couple had endured a rocky relationship marked by escalating tension. However, no one anticipated that a disagreement would end in tragedy. Friends have confirmed that Mrs. Bello had recently complained about feeling “trapped” but kept her marital issues private due to public image and societal pressure.
The Delta State Government has yet to release an official statement, but an officer at the state CID confirmed that the suspect was arrested and questioned Monday morning. He is expected to be arraigned after preliminary investigations are concluded. Police have not ruled out charges of manslaughter or homicide.
As the news spread, activists and advocacy groups renewed calls for stronger legislation to combat domestic abuse and demanded that spouses, regardless of status or title, not be shamed into silence. “Women shouldn’t have to die to be believed,” said Nkechi Obikwe, a human rights lawyer and founder of the Shelter Her Initiative. “If it’s not working, return home. Don’t return to your maker unprepared.”
Mrs. Bello was a respected development expert, known for her work in expanding non-oil exports and supporting female-led enterprises across Delta State. Her efforts brought international attention to the region’s trade potential. She is survived by her two children.
The painful irony remains—while she championed growth and freedom in the marketplace, her personal life was reportedly plagued by restriction and emotional captivity. Her story is a stark reminder that behind the walls of many seemingly perfect homes, darkness often hides.
