A northern man has issued a chilling 48-hour ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu and Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, demanding swift action in the wake of the brutal killings of 16 Northerners in Uromi, Edo State. The unidentified man, speaking in a viral video, warned that failure to apprehend those responsible for the heinous crime would lead to retaliatory violence targeting Southerners living in the North.

In the three-minute video shared by SaharaReporters on Tuesday, the man expressed frustration over the gruesome murders of the 16 victims, who were on their way to Kano for Sallah celebrations when they were ambushed by a mob. The attack has stirred intense outrage across Nigeria, and the man’s video appears to heighten tensions between the North and South, with the threat of violence looming large.

He went on to defend the killing of Deborah Samuel, a student burned alive in Sokoto over alleged blasphemy, as an act of retribution for insults against the Prophet Muhammad. The man vehemently questioned why Southerners, particularly Christians, condemned Deborah’s killing, pointing out that such an offense against Islam would never be tolerated in the North.

The man also outlined religious differences between Muslims and Christians, specifically over the role of Jesus in Islam, and issued a direct warning to Southern leaders. He stated that if no action is taken against those responsible for the killings of the 16 Northerners, the repercussions would fall squarely on the shoulders of Southern leaders, including Tinubu and Okpebholo.

This video comes just days after Edo State authorities confirmed the arrest of 14 suspects linked to the killings. Governor Okpebholo has pledged that the perpetrators would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, calling the attack “unacceptable.” However, the situation remains tense, with the northern man’s threats amplifying the deep divisions between the two regions.
