The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has appointed Professor Onyeka Chijioke as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, Owerri. This appointment, effective from February 10, 2025, is set for a six-month tenure.

Professor Chijioke’s primary mandate during this period is to oversee the selection process for a substantive Vice-Chancellor. Notably, he is not eligible to apply for the permanent position once it is advertised. Prior to this role, Prof. Chijioke served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Kingsley Ozumba Mbadiwe University (KOMU) in Ideato, Imo State.

This leadership change follows the recent appointment of Professor Stella Ngozi Lemchi as the first substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university on January 23, 2025. Professor Lemchi had previously served in an acting capacity from July 25, 2024, and played a pivotal role in transitioning the institution from a college to a university.
