Renowned journalist and human rights activist, Chidiebube Okeoma, has enrolled 15-year-old Chikamso Ekeocha, a victim of domestic abuse, into secondary school in Imo State. The story of Chikamso, who was battered by her employer in 2022 for allegedly riding his children’s bicycle without permission, captured the public’s attention after Okeoma and his team intervened, rescuing her from further harm.

Following the incident in Owerri, Okeoma took immediate action, providing medical care for Chikamso and ensuring the arrest of the abusive employer, who was subsequently remanded in the Owerri Correctional Centre. The journalist’s advocacy went beyond legal intervention, extending to Chikamso’s education and welfare. Through donations from compassionate Nigerians, he managed to raise nearly ₦1 million for Chikamso’s family, helping her mother to start a business and opening a bank account for her.

In a recent development, Okeoma revealed that Chikamso has now been enrolled in secondary school, thanks to the generous support of an anonymous Nigerian woman from Imo State, who pledged to fund the girl’s primary and secondary education. This benefactor contacted Okeoma during his campaign for Chikamso’s justice, committing to cover all educational expenses, including registration fees, tuition, textbooks, school uniforms, and other essentials.

“The scholarship is a full package,” Okeoma explained. “The woman’s kindness has made it possible for Chikamso to pursue her dreams without financial worry. We are here to guide her towards excellence, showing her that humanity is compassionate, not cruel. My goal is to help her grow into a successful woman who believes in the goodness of society.”

This story adds to Okeoma’s record of philanthropy and activism. Recently, he was instrumental in discharging newborn twins from the hospital after settling a six-month overdue bill, exemplifying his ongoing dedication to social justice and humanitarian efforts.
