Nigerian crossdresser Bobrisky has declared he will no longer accept awards designed for women, citing a series of troubles linked to an award he received earlier this year.

Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, was presented with the Best Dressed Female award at actress Eniola Ajao’s movie premiere on March 15, 2024. Alongside the recognition came a cash prize of ₦1 million. However, what should have been a moment of triumph quickly turned into a cascade of controversies for the internet personality.

Barely a week after the award ceremony, Bobrisky was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for naira abuse, following viral videos of him spraying cash flamboyantly at the event. On March 23, 2024, he was sentenced to six months imprisonment for violating the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) guidelines on currency handling.

While serving his jail term, another bombshell dropped when an audio recording surfaced online. In the leaked tape, Bobrisky allegedly confessed to bribing EFCC officials to avoid money laundering charges and claimed he served his sentence in a luxury apartment rather than a prison cell. The recording sparked outrage and led to his re-arrest on October 17, 2024.

Currently in self-imposed exile, Bobrisky took to Instagram Stories on Sunday, November 17, to vent his frustrations and point fingers at Eniola Ajao.

“My problem started when I collected the Best Dressed Female award with ₦1 million prize,” he wrote. “For my life, if I see an award for best dressed female, I go disappear from that location ASAP. Everyone knows I’m a baddie with class. Compete with me? Never! But when the wahala wan too much, I fit run,” he added.

The crossdresser, known for his controversial social media persona, insisted the award marked the beginning of his legal troubles and tarnished his public image.

Eniola Ajao, a celebrated Nollywood actress and producer, is yet to respond to the allegations at the time of this report.

Bobrisky’s woes have continued to divide public opinion, with many questioning his claims while others believe his predicament is self-inflicted. Critics argue his flamboyant lifestyle and provocative antics often court controversy, while supporters insist he is a victim of systemic bias.

Despite his ongoing troubles, Bobrisky remains defiant and unapologetic about his identity and choices, maintaining his status as one of Nigeria’s most polarizing social media figures.
