Suspected herders on Wednesday killed five people at Yelwata in the Guma Local Government saA resident, who identified himself simply as Orduen, said the hoodlums invaded the community around 1pm on Wednesday and shot at people on their farms.

He said, “They were herders who stormed our community in Yelwata around 1pm today (Wednesday). They attacked several people who were working on their farms with guns and machetes.

“Immediately they wreaked the havoc, they fled into the bush. Some of the injured ones ran into the community to inform us.

“At the time youths went in search of our people, we discovered the lifeless bodies of five people and six people were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.”

The Chairman of Guma LGA, Mike Uba, who spoke through the security adviser of the council, Waku Christopher, confirmed the killing of five people.

He said, “It is true; it is the same herdsmen and farmers. Five farmers were attacked and killed and three or four people were injured.”

The state police spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, said officers had been deployed in the community.
