Three persons have been arrested by the police during a protest over an alleged blasphemous statement made against Prophet Muhammad (SAW) by one Naomi on her Facebook account.

Goni was accused of making the statement while reacting to the killing of a Christian student, Deborah Samuel, a 200-level female student of Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto over alleged blasphemy. 

The state Commissioner of Police, Abdu Umar who confirmed their arrest, said they were arrested with “something like fuel inside a Jeri can.”

Umar who warned residents not to take advantage of the protest to disrupt peace in the state, said all unlawful assembly in the state had been banned in the state and “security operatives are going round the metropolis to dislodge any unlawful assembly.”

He said; 

“For now the suspects are in custody but I don’t think they are connected with a particular offence until after investigation.”
