Abducted Plateau University Student Regains Freedom After Security Operation

A 100-level female student of Plateau State University, Bokkos, has regained her freedom after being abducted by gunmen in the university community on Saturday night.
The student was reportedly kidnapped at an off-campus residential area in Bokkos Local Government Area at about 8:30 pm while she and three other students were out to buy something.
During the attack, one of the students was reportedly shot and injured, while the others escaped without injuries.
The Acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Masara Kim, confirmed the student’s release to journalists in Jos on Tuesday, saying the gunmen abandoned her after security personnel launched an operation.
According to Kim, the university worked with a joint security team to pursue the kidnappers, forcing them to flee when they sighted the advancing operatives.
“She was abandoned by her captors after the university, in collaboration with a joint security team, launched an operation that forced them to flee on sighting the advancing team,” he said.
Kim disclosed that the rescued student had been taken to hospital for medical examination and was receiving medical attention.
He also commended the security personnel for their prompt response, adding that the university was working with relevant agencies to improve the safety of students and staff within and around the institution.
