Otu Says Tinubu Risked His Life for Democracy, Praises Fuel Subsidy Removal

Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has praised President Bola Tinubu, claiming that he put his life on the line for democracy in Nigeria.
Otu made the remarks on Monday at an All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally in Calabar, where he described Tinubu as a courageous leader.
The governor said a country’s progress depended not only on its wealth but also on the quality of decisions made by its leaders at critical moments. He added that he was proud to recognise Tinubu’s influence among residents of Cross River State and Nigerians.
Otu described the President as a courageous figure and referred to him as a change agent and an icon of freedom. He also praised what he called Tinubu’s commitment to democracy and leadership.
“In the nick of time, God created a special womb that would carry an icon of freedom, a demagogue, and a Jagaban who put his life on the line for democracy,” the governor said.
He also commended Tinubu for establishing the South-South Development Commission and ending the fuel subsidy regime, which he described as exploitative.
Otu further credited the President with supporting access to education for children from poor backgrounds and linking Calabar with Lagos through the coastal rail line.
The governor’s remarks formed part of his address at the APC rally, where he highlighted policies and projects he associated with Tinubu’s administration while praising the President’s political and democratic history.
