Dickson Targets 2027 Presidential Victory, Says NDC Will Secure National Assembly Majority

The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has declared that his party is targeting victory in the 2027 presidential election, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government of setting Nigeria back since 2015.
Dickson made the remarks on Wednesday in Abuja while receiving members of The Dickson Movement for Democracy, led by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Ogbidi. The group adopted the former Bayelsa State governor as its Grand Patron.
He called on Nigerian youths to mobilise nationwide in support of NDC candidates, saying the party intends to win the presidency and secure a majority of seats in the National Assembly to advance its proposed reforms.
Dickson described the NDC as an alternative for Nigerians seeking a change in the country’s direction, citing insecurity, poverty, unemployment and economic hardship among the challenges he said had worsened under the ruling party.
“The ticket of the NDC is a ticket of restoration of our country,” he declared.
The former governor said his party was aiming to win the presidential election on the first ballot and secure enough legislative seats to support its proposed programme of reform and transformation.
“The presidential election is very important to us. All elections are important. We want to win the presidency on the first ballot. We also want to win a majority of seats in the National Assembly, where our president and vice president can run the government of reform and transformation,” Dickson said.
He described the 2027 general election as a referendum on the incumbent government and urged young Nigerians to participate actively in the electoral process.
Dickson also called on supporters to reject vote-buying and intimidation while remaining vigilant in protecting their votes.
“We are not for violence. We are not for abuses,” he said, urging party members to focus on policy proposals rather than personal attacks against political opponents.
The NDC leader’s remarks signal the party’s ambition to expand its political influence ahead of the 2027 elections, with youth mobilisation and legislative representation identified as key parts of its strategy.
