Police Arrest Three Over Alleged Killing of Family of Six in Oyo

Police in Oyo State have arrested three suspects over the alleged murder and robbery of a family of six at Oloba village in Lagelu Local Government Area of Ibadan.
The suspects, identified as Hammed Akinbami, Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward, are all residents of Oloba Village. Police said they were allegedly involved in an attack on the home of Ifeanyi Chukwu, his wife and their four children on September 22, 2026.
According to the police, the suspects invaded the residence armed with a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and a club. They allegedly stole N200,000 in cash, a Boxer motorcycle, a Doma machine with chainsaw and a spraying machine during the attack.
Police alleged that Hammed Akinbami shot Ifeanyi Chukwu, while Akinbami Ojo and Padonu Edward attacked his wife and hit her on the head.
The suspects allegedly tied two of the children by their hands and legs before throwing them into a nearby river. Police said the other members of the family were also killed and their bodies dumped in the river.
The Oyo State Police Command said detectives began investigations after receiving credible intelligence about the incident on October 2. The three suspects were subsequently arrested and allegedly confessed to their involvement during interrogation.
Police said the family’s Boxer motorcycle was recovered alongside a locally made Dane gun, two cutlasses and the club allegedly used in the attack.
The remains of the wife have been recovered, while search operations continue for the remains of the other victims. The suspects and case file are expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku, for further investigation and legal action.
