Bandits Allegedly Kill Police Inspector After Attacking Travellers in Katsina

A police inspector has reportedly been killed after suspected bandits attacked travellers in the Shagari area of Katsina State.

According to a post by security commentator Bakatsine on X, the armed men were sighted moving through farmlands early in the morning towards Sanyin Nawal village.

The attackers allegedly stopped several vehicles and robbed travellers before bathing at a nearby pond, eating food and drinking Maltina. They later reportedly set a motorcycle ablaze before moving through villages around the Sanyin Nawal community.

Bakatsine said the bandits encountered a passenger vehicle while returning in the evening, around Maghrib, and opened fire on it.

The police officer killed in the attack was identified as Inspector Isah Muhammad Girkau. He was reportedly hit by a bullet and later died from his injuries.

The reported attack adds to concerns over the safety of travellers using roads leading to rural communities in Katsina State, where bandit attacks have continued despite ongoing security operations.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the attack and any further casualties or arrests were not provided in the report.
