2027: APC Governors Reject Wike-Linked Alliances, Back Tinubu and Party Candidates

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors Forum has rejected any political alliance that could undermine the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that its members will campaign for APC candidates and President Bola Tinubu.

The position was announced by the forum’s chairman and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, after the governors met in Abuja on Monday night. Uzodimma said APC governors had not entered into any formal agreement with individuals or opposition parties ahead of the election.

The declaration comes as FCT Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Nyesom Wike continues to promote his Rainbow Coalition in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid. Wike has been building the political movement in Rivers State while working within the APC-led federal government.

Wike recently alleged that Uzodimma and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq were among those behind political challenges facing him. He linked the tensions to the growing reach of his Rainbow Coalition and its reported efforts to provide a platform for politicians seeking to challenge APC candidates in some states.

The APC governors appeared to draw a clear line against such arrangements, saying their political commitment would remain within the party’s official structure. Uzodimma said the forum would not support any candidate who is not sponsored by the APC.

“The APC Governors Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr President, weakening the APC or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,” Uzodimma said.

He added that the governors’ campaign efforts would be directed exclusively towards APC candidates, with the party’s campaign structure expected to align with Tinubu’s re-election plans and the broader objectives of the APC.

The position could complicate political calculations ahead of 2027, particularly in states where APC leaders and politicians associated with the Rainbow Coalition have competing interests. While Wike’s coalition has positioned itself as a pro-Tinubu movement, the APC governors have now made clear that their support will go through the party’s own candidates and political structure.
