With the August 15 Osun governorship election drawing closer, Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared that his administration will resist every form of intimidation while urging supporters to remain peaceful and committed to the democratic process.
The Accord Party governorship candidate made the remarks in a series of posts on his official X account on Thursday following a campaign stop in Ayedaade Local Government Area, where he said the party received a massive show of support from residents and loyalists.
Adeleke described the turnout as a clear indication of the public’s confidence in his administration and its continuity agenda. He said the reception reaffirmed the determination of his supporters despite what he called repeated provocations ahead of the election.
“Our people continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience in the face of repeated provocations,” the governor said. “We will resist, through lawful and democratic means, any attempt to undermine the will of the great people of Osun State. We will not bow to intimidation, regardless of where it comes from.”
Highlighting his administration’s performance, Adeleke said prudent management of public resources and people-focused policies have transformed governance in the state. According to him, the achievements of his government are visible across different sectors and continue to improve the lives of residents.
The governor also appealed to party members and supporters to avoid violence as political campaigns intensify. He urged them to remain vigilant, disciplined and united, stressing that peaceful participation and a massive turnout at the polls remain the strongest response to intimidation.
“As we move closer to the election, I urge our supporters to remain peaceful, vigilant and focused. The greatest response to intimidation is unity, discipline and an overwhelming turnout at the polls,” Adeleke added.
His comments come amid heightened political tension in Osun following the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)’s directive freezing withdrawals from the state’s statutory allocation account as part of an ongoing investigation. While the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) criticised the move, arguing that the anti-graft agency lacks the constitutional authority to impose such restrictions without due legal process, the Osun State Government has denied any financial wrongdoing and accused political opponents of attempting to frustrate governance.
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for August 15, 2026, with Adeleke seeking re-election under the Accord Party, while opposition parties continue to intensify campaigns across the state.
