A barber identified simply as Emeka has been taken into police custody in Umuahia, Abia State, after officers reportedly discovered a clay pot containing human hair and suspected fetish items during a search of his residence.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged by a neighbour, Mr. Johnson Ikenga, who allegedly accused the barber of making threats against him. The report prompted officers from the Central Police Station (CPS), Umuahia, to visit the suspect’s one-room apartment on Tuesday.
During the operation, police reportedly searched the residence and recovered a clay pot stuffed with human hair alongside other items believed to have ritual significance. The discovery quickly drew attention from residents of the area.
According to accounts from the scene, Emeka admitted that the pot belonged to him when questioned by officers. However, he reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the presence of the human hair or state how the items were obtained.
The barber is said to be well known in Umuahia for his hairstyling skills, leading to speculation among some residents that the recovered hair may have belonged to customers who visited his shop. However, there is currently no official evidence linking the hair to any criminal activity, and such claims remain unverified.
The suspect was subsequently taken to the Central Police Station for further questioning as investigations continue.
As of the time of filing this report, the Abia State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident or confirmed the nature of the recovered items. Authorities are expected to provide more details after completing preliminary investigations.
