The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has announced the passing of his immediate elder brother, Prince Adetunji Ogunwusi, describing him as a respected businessman, devoted family man and compassionate humanitarian.
The monarch disclosed the sad news in a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Sodiq Lawal, saying the late prince’s death has left a profound void in the Ogunwusi family, the Ojaja Royal Dynasty and the entire Ile-Ife Kingdom.
Born on December 8, 1967, Prince Adetunji Ogunwusi was a member of the Ojaja lineage of the Giesi Ruling House in Ile-Ife. He also served as the Group Chairman of Primewaterview Holdings, where he was recognised for his contributions to business and enterprise.
Paying tribute to his late brother, the Ooni said Prince Adetunji built a reputation for excellence, innovation and visionary leadership while remaining deeply committed to humanitarian causes and community development.
“Today, the entire royal family mourns not only a brother and son but also a trusted confidant, a dependable pillar of our family and a man whose life reflected honour, dignity and uncommon compassion,” the monarch said.
The Ooni added that beyond his achievements in business, Prince Adetunji quietly transformed many lives through acts of generosity, wise counsel and selfless service. According to him, the late prince consistently upheld the values of the Ojaja Royal Family through humility, integrity and dedication to the progress of society.
He urged members of the Ogunwusi family, the people of Ile-Ife and well-wishers to find comfort in the impactful legacy the deceased left behind, noting that his contributions to family, business and humanity would continue to inspire future generations.
The monarch also prayed for the peaceful repose of Prince Adetunji’s soul and asked God to grant strength and comfort to his immediate family, friends, business associates and everyone affected by the loss.
