The family of late Mount Zion actor Olusegun Oyeyemi has announced his burial arrangements as tributes continue to pour in from colleagues, fans and members of Nigeria’s gospel film community.
Oyeyemi, who was 38, died on June 10, leaving behind a legacy of faith-based performances. He was widely recognised for portraying Flora’s husband in the popular gospel television series Abattoir, produced by Mount Zion Film Productions and directed by Damilola Mike-Bamiloye.
His passing has reopened fresh wounds within the Christian movie industry, coming just months after the death of his Abattoir co-star Tolu Adegboyega, who played Flora in the series. Adegboyega died on February 4, 2026, following complications from a tragic road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in December 2025 that also claimed the lives of her twins.
The burial arrangements were announced by fellow gospel actor Oluwaseun Adejumobi, who shared details in a post on Instagram on Tuesday night.
According to the programme released by the family, a Service of Songs will be held on Wednesday, July 2, at New Covenant Church, IMPA Estate, Akobo, Ibadan, Oyo State. Oyeyemi will be laid to rest the following day, Thursday, July 3, at the Garden of Saint Cemetery in Ibadan. Family members have requested that mourners wear white attire to both events.
Oyeyemi’s death comes shortly after another painful loss for Mount Zion Film Productions—the passing of veteran actor and evangelist Korede “Baba Gbenro” Are, who also featured in Abattoir.
Baba Gbenro, known for his contributions to Christian drama and evangelism, died after battling liver disease. Throughout his ministry, he appeared in several gospel films alongside renowned actors including Damilola Bamiloye and Tolulope Adegbo.
A devoted evangelist beyond the screen, Baba Gbenro founded the Calvary Movie Ministry in September 1995 with the mission of spreading the Christian faith through drama. He continued that work alongside his wife, Bamike Rebecca Are, until his death.
The recent deaths of several prominent gospel actors have left many within the Christian entertainment industry reflecting on their contributions, while fans continue to celebrate the lives and ministries they dedicated to using film as a tool for evangelism.
