At least 10 people have been killed after armed gunmen attacked Gurbi community in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, in yet another violent assault raising concerns over worsening insecurity in the region.

The attack reportedly took place in the evening when the assailants stormed the community and opened fire on residents, forcing many to flee for safety.

Security analyst Bakatsine disclosed the incident in a post on X, stating that the attackers shot sporadically at civilians, leaving several people dead and others injured.

According to his account, witnesses said the gunmen pursued fleeing residents and continued firing during the assault, causing panic across the community.

He also alleged that security operatives arrived after significant casualties had already been recorded, raising fresh questions about response time in rural communities affected by bandit attacks.

The post further questioned the recurring nature of such violence and the adequacy of protection for vulnerable settlements in the region.

Katsina State has remained one of the hotspots of armed banditry in northwestern Nigeria, with repeated attacks on rural communities leading to deaths, displacement, and destruction of property.
