Nigerian troops under Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled an attempted Boko Haram/ISWAP infiltration into Kanama town in Borno State, killing four insurgents in a swift counter-operation.

The attack occurred around 6:00 pm on April 22 when soldiers of the 159 Battalion, stationed in Kanama, heard gunfire and quickly moved to respond.

Security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed the development in a post on X, noting that the troops immediately engaged the attackers upon arrival at the affected location.

According to him, the insurgents had already infiltrated parts of the community before they were intercepted by the responding troops.

The soldiers reportedly opened disciplined fire, forcing the attackers to retreat in disarray before launching a follow-up sweep of the area.

Makama noted that the broader security situation in the theatre remains calm but unpredictable, even as troops continue sustained operations across vulnerable areas.

He added that the morale and operational efficiency of the troops remain high amid ongoing counter-insurgency efforts in the North-East.

Operation HADIN KAI, which has been active in the region for years, continues to conduct coordinated offensives aimed at degrading insurgent capabilities and restoring stability to affected communities.
