Troops deployed under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, part of Operation Savannah Shield, have recovered two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along the Kaiama–Woro road in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, confirmed the recovery on Thursday via a post on X. He stated that the operation followed credible intelligence on a possible IED threat in the area.
According to Makama, troops were mobilised in collaboration with a Nigeria Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team at around 2:10 p.m. on March 24. “During the operation, the team conducted a thorough scan of the area and discovered two IEDs about 300 metres from the site of a previous explosion,” he said.
The police EOD team successfully secured the explosives without any casualties, ensuring the safety of residents and motorists along the road.
The operation highlights ongoing efforts by the military and security agencies to combat insurgency and protect communities in vulnerable regions.
