Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed after two separate fire incidents ravaged residential buildings in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, within hours.

The first incident occurred at a private residence located at No. 16, Majekobaje community, Idi Osan, along Iwo Road Expressway, where a building comprising three-bedroom flats was engulfed in flames.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said firefighters arrived to find the building already covered in thick smoke and intense flames.

He explained that emergency responders acted swiftly to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.

“No casualty was recorded, and the fire incident was as a result of firewood not properly extinguished, which ignited nearby combustible materials,” Akinwande said.

In a separate incident, another residential building at No. 32, Oshodi Street, Olorunsogo, behind Scout Camp in Felele, also caught fire on the same day.

The blaze reportedly affected the kitchen area of the building, causing damage to household items, although no injuries or fatalities were recorded.

Akinwande confirmed that firefighters responded promptly to the second incident, preventing further destruction.

The back-to-back fire outbreaks have raised concerns among residents over fire safety practices, particularly the handling of open flames and combustible materials in residential areas.

Authorities have urged residents to take precautionary measures to prevent similar incidents, emphasizing the importance of proper fire safety awareness.
