Davido Was Target of Attack That Disrupted Adeleke’s Convoy in Osogbo – Police

Afrobeat star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, was the alleged target of an attack that disrupted the convoy of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke in Osogbo, police authorities have said.
The incident happened on Wednesday as Governor Adeleke visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo after receiving his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Davido, who was actively involved in the governor’s election campaign, accompanied him to the INEC office and later to the monarch’s palace with members of his family.
Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said preliminary investigations suggested that suspected members of the Eye Confraternity were attempting to gain access to Davido. He identified one Adebayo Taoreed, also known as “Small Rugged”, as an alleged ex-convict and suspected member of the group.
According to the police, Taoreed allegedly tried to reach Davido but was stopped by members of the singer’s security team. The confrontation reportedly drew other suspected gang members to the area, leading to a temporary blockage at the palace entrance and disrupting the movement of the governor’s convoy.
The violence later turned deadly when 60-year-old Tajudeen Yusuf was reportedly shot at Itaolokan area of Osogbo. Police said officers were dispatched after receiving reports of the shooting and found Yusuf seriously injured at the scene. He was taken to the University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, but doctors later confirmed his death.
The police said the suspected attackers had left the area before the victim was found. Detectives have since launched what the command described as a full-scale investigation aimed at identifying and arresting those involved in the attack and shooting.
Commissioner of Police (Election), Osun State Command, CP Samuel Etaifo, condemned the incident and said the command would use all available resources to bring those responsible to justice. Police also appealed to anyone with useful information to contact the nearest police station or the command through its official channels.
The command urged residents to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands as investigations continue. Police said further updates would be provided as more information emerges.
