The political landscape of Obowo Local Government Area in Imo State received a major boost with the inauguration of the Obowo Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a grassroots advocacy platform supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) and federal government initiatives.
The inauguration, held at Otoko Council Hall, saw high-level participation, reflecting the growing importance of community-level political mobilisation in the Southeast.
Goodluck Opiah, Imo State Coordinator, outlined the key role of the newly appointed ward coordinators in fostering unity, educating residents, and mobilising community support for state and federal government policies.
“The coordinators’ responsibilities go beyond advocacy; they are tasked with unifying communities and communicating the achievements and reforms of both APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration,” Opiah said. He added that a retreat for coordinators would be organised to equip them with talking points and training for greater effectiveness.
Advocacy, Not Politics
Opiah emphasised that the Renewed Hope Ambassadors are not a separate political party or campaign group but serve as disciplined APC members advocating government initiatives and correcting misconceptions at the grassroots.
“They are advocacy agents, not a political party, but a bridge between citizens and government policies,” he said, highlighting the importance of public awareness on issues such as the fuel subsidy removal policy, which has redirected funds into developmental projects like the Owerri–Umuahia road.
Federal Initiatives and Community Impact
The coordinators were urged to educate communities on federal programmes such as NELFUND and to promote state-led benefits arising from the federal government’s restructuring of the exclusive legislative list, which empowers states in areas including electricity generation and service delivery.
Udochukwu Nwagwu, Obowo Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, described the inauguration as a defining moment for the movement in the local government. He stressed that electoral success is built through sustained grassroots engagement, where trust and participation are cultivated consistently.
Chief Chris Okewulonu, in his address, commended the coordinators and emphasised grassroots mobilisation, unity, and active support for state and federal leadership. Deacon Chike Okafor, representing Okigwe South Federal Constituency, reinforced the themes of purpose, unity, and political dominance.
The event showcased a strategic alignment between the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, the APC, and the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma, highlighting the centrality of grassroots advocacy in consolidating political presence and promoting good governance in Obowo LGA.
