The Rivers State Government has dismissed reports that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been formally served with an impeachment notice, describing the claims as inaccurate and misleading.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Friday, the governor’s Special Adviser, Darlington Orji, said no official impeachment communication had reached Fubara from the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Orji said the governor only became aware of the alleged impeachment move through media reports, insisting that no document or notice had been delivered to him by the lawmakers.

According to the aide, the House of Assembly had earlier announced it would proceed on recess and reconvene around January 28, 2026, making the later emergency sitting unexpected and outside the agreed legislative schedule.

He added that Governor Fubara was not in Rivers State at the time of the sitting, rejecting claims that the governor deliberately avoided the Assembly or left the state to evade impeachment proceedings.

Orji stressed that the governor has nothing to hide and is prepared to engage with any lawful process, noting that suggestions of an impeachment notice already being served were unfounded.

“We heard through the print and electronic media that impeachment proceedings had been forwarded to His Excellency,” Orji said. “But as I speak to you now, no such notice has been received from the Rivers State House of Assembly.”

He explained that the Assembly’s sitting was convened outside the date earlier communicated, adding that the governor could not have anticipated the meeting while he was away attending to other engagements.

“The governor did not run away. He is not afraid of service. There is nothing to hide,” Orji said, maintaining that the impeachment reports remain speculative until proper constitutional procedures are followed.
