Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has been remanded in prison custody after being arraigned on multiple criminal charges at the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State.

The artist appeared before the court on Monday to answer to a nine-count charge bordering on assault, theft, causing grievous harm and resisting arrest, according to the Ogun State Police Command.

Police spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi said the charges stem from a series of incidents allegedly linked to the singer’s bar in Iyana Ilogbo, where the offences were said to have occurred on New Year’s Day.

Portable’s arraignment followed a viral video that surfaced on Sunday showing him in police custody. The arrest, police said, was triggered by a complaint lodged by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.

Prosecutors told the court that Portable allegedly assaulted Ashabi, several police officers and other individuals during the incident. Those listed as victims include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi and Ebuka Odah.

The singer is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300, valued at about ₦12 million, allegedly belonging to Ileyemi Damilola and reportedly purchased from Wally Dex Auto.

While Ashabi Simple was absent from court, prosecutors disclosed that two of her siblings testified as witnesses to the alleged assault.

Police further accused Portable of obstructing and assaulting a female police officer, Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was said to be carrying out her official duties.

The presiding judge declined the singer’s bail application, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. The judge ruled that the officer must appear before bail could be considered.

Portable was consequently remanded in prison custody, with the court fixing January 19, 2026, for a fresh bail hearing.
