A young woman has died after she was allegedly attacked by her boyfriend inside a pharmacy in Nsukka, Enugu State, sparking outrage across the community.
The confrontation happened on Monday at Bekay Pharmacy, located at the busy Total Roundabout, where the victim was said to be receiving treatment before the suspect, identified as Emma Nwagwu, stormed in.
According to online accounts shared by local influencer Sen. Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, Nwagwu accused the woman of having an affair with a senior police officer—a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) reportedly waiting outside the premises in his vehicle.
Witnesses said the argument escalated quickly, with Nwagwu allegedly slamming the woman’s head against a wall, causing her to collapse. She reportedly died instantly, sparking anger among onlookers who attempted to attack the suspect.
Security personnel intervened to prevent mob violence, and tensions heightened further when Nwagwu allegedly tried to confront the DPO. The officer drew his service pistol, but bystanders restrained both men before the situation deteriorated.
Nwagwu, described by residents as a known political operative in Nsukka Local Government, was subsequently taken into custody at the Nsukka Police Area Command.
The Enugu State Police Command has not yet issued an official statement, but Ugwuanyi’s post has intensified calls for transparency and justice in the unfolding investigation.
