Manchester United snatched a dramatic point at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt scored a stunning stoppage-time equaliser to deny Spurs victory in a chaotic Premier League clash.
The visitors had taken the lead through Bryan Mbeumo, who nodded home Amad Diallo’s pinpoint cross midway through the first half. United appeared in control as goalkeeper Senne Lammens pulled off two fine saves to deny Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven.
Spurs turned the game around late on when substitute Mathys Tel, who was initially booed by home fans, rifled in a superb finish six minutes from time to make it 1–1. The atmosphere flipped instantly — and moments later, Richarlison thought he’d sealed a famous comeback, flicking in Wilson Odobert’s long-range effort.
But United, reduced to 10 men after Benjamin Šeško picked up an injury with all substitutions used, refused to fold. Pushing everyone forward — even Lammens — they won a corner deep into injury time. From the final delivery, De Ligt rose highest and powered a header in from an impossible angle to make it 2–2.
The final whistle brought disbelief on both sides. Richarlison was left distraught after celebrating what he thought was the winner, while United boss Rúben Amorim looked stunned at how his side had nearly lost a game they once controlled.
For Tottenham manager Thomas Frank, relief and frustration mixed in equal measure. His team avoided a fourth straight home defeat, but questions remain over their defensive lapses and wastefulness in attack.
Spurs have now collected just two points from their last five home league matches — a worrying trend they’ll need to fix fast if their Champions League hopes are to stay alive.
