The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has expressed condolences to the family and colleagues of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a news anchor and producer with Arise News Television, who was killed during an armed robbery at her Abuja residence.

The 26-year-old broadcaster was attacked on Monday night in the Katampe area of the capital, a tragedy that has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s media industry.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Police Commissioner Ajao S. Adewale described the killing as a “cruel and senseless act that has no place in a sane society.”

Investigation ordered

The Commissioner directed detectives to conduct a discreet and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. He also deployed intelligence and operational units to track down the perpetrators.

“We remain fully committed to ensuring justice is served,” the statement read, urging residents of Abuja to support police efforts with timely and credible information.

The CP also appealed to FCT residents to remain vigilant and raise prompt alarms in suspicious situations to deter “criminal elements in our society.”
