Flying Eagles head coach Aliyu Zubairu says Nigeria’s U-20 team is determined to chase glory at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

Nigeria, seven-time African champions, have come close to lifting the trophy twice—finishing as runners-up in Saudi Arabia in 1989 and the Netherlands in 2005. However, they fell short again in Argentina two years ago, bowing out in the quarter-finals against South Korea.

Zubairu insists his current squad is focused on breaking that jinx.

“We wish to surpass the past records, but we will take it one step at a time,” he said. “Get out of the group and then we think of the next step.”

Nigeria have been drawn into Group F alongside Norway, Colombia, and Saudi Arabia, a mix of tricky European, South American, and Asian opposition.

The Flying Eagles will begin their campaign against Norway on Monday, 29 September, in what is expected to be a high-intensity opener.

With a blend of youth, talent, and hunger, Zubairu believes the Flying Eagles are primed to finally land the global title and cement their legacy in world football.
